Maor Zabar’s love of art started at a young age. The grandson of a tailor, he learned how to sew and play with fabric, and was later inspired to become a designer. Maor graduated with a degree in fashion and costume design from Shenkar college of Engineering & Design in Tel Aviv, and soon opened his studio to begin working as a costume designer in dance, theatre and opera. In recent years, Maor has won numerous awards for his work and has secured his place as one of the leading costume designers in Israel.
After fulfilling years of fruitful work, Maor decided to conquer another summit ambition, he had dreamed of for many years: to divert his resources towards making hats. In 2014 Maor started a millinery atelier that carries his name, Maor Zabar Hats, and thanks to his unique, colorful and humorous designs, Maor has managed to achieve recognition of bloggers, journalists and other co designers all around the world. In October 2017, he was honored with his first solo exhibition presenting his hats at the museum – “Museu da Chapelaria” in Portugal.
In his work, Maor draws inspiration from the world of nature, art and history, while composing contrasts between classic and modern worlds. His work is meticulously crafted by hand with classic high quality material alongside modern techniques such as digital textile printing, laser cutting and 3D printing. The combination of classical techniques with luxury materials and modern technologies yields the fresh, new, humorous and theatrical aesthetic which identifies Maor’s unique style.
